Cooperstown - A Real “Hall Of Fame” New York Attraction

Posted by admin

Nestled in the rolling hills of upstate New York is Cooperstown, widely known for being the home of the world famous baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Not so widely known is why the Hall of Fame is located there. In 1905, a committee (The Mills Commission) was appointed to determine the origin of baseball. They finally determined in 1907 that “the first scheme for playing baseball, according to the best evidence obtainable to date, was devised by Abner Doubleday at Cooperstown, N.Y. in 1839." This made Cooperstown the perfect location for the shrine. The Hall of Fame opened in 1939 and is visited by 350,000 guests a year.

In addition to the Hall of Fame there are many other attractions in Cooperstown, also known as the Village of Museums. Here you will find the Farmers’ Museum, the Fenimore Art Museum and Eugene Thaw Indian Collection. Not far away, car buffs can see the largest collection of Franklin luxury cars in the world at the Northeast Classic Car Museum.

Catch a ride on the Leatherstocking Railway, take in an opera, and visit the unique shops or the Wax Museum on Main Street. There are guided tours and even a candlelight ghost tour.

Loads of fun in the winter with tubing, cross country skiing and ice skating. In the warmer months enjoy the water activities at Lake Otsego or take a cruise on the Erie Canal. Watch a new brew being created and taste test it at the Cooperstown Brewing Company. Golfers have a choice of three beautiful golf courses to putt around on.

There is plenty to see and do but if you still need some more baseball, there are games scheduled all day long at Doubleday field and Cooperstown Dreams Park is where you can catch some of the best youth baseball tournaments in the world.
